The Sigma 20-60mm F2.8-4 DG Contemporary is a compact standard zoom for full-frame mirrorless cameras, combining an ultra-wide 20mm starting point with a standard 60mm perspective. Designed for both photography and video, it balances wide-angle coverage, close-up versatility and portability in a palm-sized body. This Sony E-mount version weighs 375g / 13.2 oz.
The 3x zoom range lets you move from expansive landscapes to everyday snapshots and portraits without changing lenses. At 20mm, the F2.8 maximum aperture helps with indoor scenes and night photography while keeping ISO low. Its slim form is easy to pack for daily shooting, travel, hiking and video creation, bringing ultra-wide coverage into a portable everyday setup.
The optical design uses 15 elements in 13 groups, including three SLD glass elements and three aspherical elements. This construction is designed to maintain consistent sharpness throughout the zoom range without sacrificing portability, supporting detailed rendering for everyday scenes and travel photography.
Close-up capability extends the lens beyond general-purpose shooting. It focuses as close as 15.8 cm at 28mm and reaches a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.3 at 35mm, approaching half-macro reproduction for detailed close-ups. At the 60mm telephoto end, it still provides 1:2.9 magnification, retaining useful close-up performance as you change focal length and composition.
- - Flare and ghosting control: Simulation-based optical development addresses flare and ghosting across incident-light conditions. The resulting resistance to backlighting helps preserve clear, sharp images when shooting toward strong light.
Sigma's HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) provides fast, quiet autofocus with precise control. The linear motor moves the focusing lens directly, without gears or other intervening mechanical parts. It is designed to track fast-moving subjects even at high frame rates, supporting both decisive still images and hybrid photo/video workflows.
- - Reduced focus breathing: The lens is designed to limit changes in angle of view as focus shifts, helping video focus pulls look smooth and natural.
For outdoor use, the dust- and splash-resistant construction includes sealing at the mount connection, manual focus ring, zoom ring and cover connection. A water- and oil-repellent coating on the frontmost lens surface helps water wipe away easily and discourages oil and grease from adhering, making the surface easier to maintain.
- - Weather-resistance limits: The construction permits use in light rain, but the lens is not waterproof. Avoid large amounts of splashing water; water entering the lens can cause a major malfunction, and repairing water-damaged internal components may be impractical.
- - Individual optical testing: Every lens undergoes testing with Sigma's proprietary MTF measurement system.
- Mount conversion: Sigma's Mount Conversion Service is available for this lens.
